Bronze chalice. 10th/11th century AD. ø upper rim 13cm, h 16.5cm. Domed bowl on a high, conical foot with a knot at the top. On the outside four engraved crosses and the engraved inscription ΠΗΕΤΕ ΕΞ ΑΥΤΟΥ ΠΑΝΤΕΣ ΤΟΥΤΟ ΕΣΤΗΝ ΤΟ ΕΜΑ ΜΟ = "Drink from it, all of you, this is my blood." Cf. Rome and Byzantium.
