Description
Very large Syro-Hittite idol. 1st half 2nd mill. bc. Chr. H 42.5 cm. Light gray terracotta. Figure of a goddess with crown and columnar body. She wears a curly hairstyle and an elaborate necklace. The upper body is flat with short stubby arms. Her right hand holds a disk-shaped object with eyes. The left hand is broken. Carved motifs on the shoulder. Broken below the chest and expertly restored. Provenance: Ex collection A.D.-U., Bavaria. In Germany since before 1990.
