Head of an idol. West Asian, ca. 2900 - 2700 BC. H 5.2 cm, W 3.8 cm, D 5.3 cm. White, fine crystalline marble. Extremely unusual head with great depth. The ears, nose and - this seems characteristic - the mouth in the shape of a beak are indicated in relief. Unusual shape! Sinter, broken in the neck, ears bumped. Provenance: ex Gorny & Mosch 300, 2023, lot 412; from a French private collection; ex Gorny & Mosch auction 222, 2014. 238; from a private collection in New York, acquired in the 1980s.
