Description
Gold foil with Hathor. Ptolemaic, 4th - 1st century BC H 3.5 cm, W 1.5 cm. A cow-headed figure with a sun disk and cow horns is recognizable. Gold foils of this kind were placed between the mummy bands and had an apotropaic function for the deceased on his journey to the afterlife. Gold! Fragment, mounted on black cardboard, somewhat crushed. Provenance: ex Gorny & Mosch 300, 2023, lot 380; ex Hôtel Drouot Paris, auction 14.03.1963, ex lot 49 (originally 21 pieces).
