Faience ushebti with hieroglyphics. Late period, ca. 26th dynasty, 664 - 525 BC. H 15.9 cm. Turquoise faience. Mummy-shaped with back pillar, three-part wig, beard and hoe and plow in crossed hands. Seven-line inscription to the lower section. Intact. Provenance: Ex collection Dr. Karl von Seeger, acquired before 1970.

Comprising groups of three oval carnelian beads with interstitial biconvex and annular beads, a turquoise faience ribbed tubular bead and an irregular polyhedral carnelian centrepiece. 35 grams, 70 cm (27 1/2 in.). From the private collection of the late Mrs Belinda Ellison, long time member of the Egyptian Exploration Society, c.1940-2020.

Spine with 4 nerves decorated with gilt filleting and a red calf title-piece with title in gilt lettering. Monogram X.H. at bottom of spine. Dull corners and rubbing. Minor foxing. Uncommon first edition of this acerbic critique of Champollion's work. Complete with 3 plates, including a large folded representation of the Abydos monument, and numerous hieroglyphs in the text. A fine copy.
