Silver phiale. Greek, 5th - 4th century BC. H 3.5cm, ø 21.6cm (400g). Chased. Bowl with stepped rim, lancet-shaped leaves around an omphalos inside. Small scratches, otherwise intact. Provenance: Ex Austrian private collection M. S., since 1970s. At Gorny & Mosch auction 279, Munich 2021, lot 174.

Greek Bronze Phiale with Handles. Archaic, 7th-6th century B.C. Broad and squat in profile with thickened rim, two lateral omega-shaped drop handles each mounted below the rim on a crescentic bar surmounted by a model bird facing inwards; base damaged. Cf. similar item (without bird figures) in the Metropolitan Museum of Art under accession no. 03.23.47. 915 grams, 44 cm wide (17 1/4 in.). Acquired in the mid 1980s-1990s. Private collection, Switzerland, thence by descent. Private collection, since the late 1990s. This lot has been checked against the Interpol Database of stolen works of art and is accompanied by search certificate number no.12210-222327. Segmented body with central filigree wiring, collared knops to three corners, integral coiled pin and trapezoidal catchplate with lotus flower engraved to the outer face, loop with stylised serpentine head to base. 13.5 grams, 63 mm (2 1/2 in.). Acquired in Europe before 1994. European collection. (For this specific lot, 5% import VAT is applicable on the hammer price.)
