Description

Early Greek antefix with female head. Late Daedalian style, late 7th - early 6th century BC. H 21.1 cm and with stand 23.9 cm, W 18.8 cm and with stand 20 cm. Molded terracotta made of coarse pink clay with reddish splashes, covered with white engobe and remnants of dark painting. The front is decorated with a girl's head with a sphinx-like gaze and an archaic smile, as well as a hunchback hairstyle with three plaits on each side; she is wearing a wide polo at the top. An important piece from the early period of Greek sculpture! Imbrex broken on the back, otherwise intact, mounted on a beautiful black marble stand. Provenance: In the private collection of P. A., Munich since 2021; previously in German family ownership since before 2000.
