Fragment of an Etruscan frieze panel with horses of a quadriga. Mid 6th century BC. H 12.4cm, W 15.4cm, D 3.8cm. Light brown terracotta. Molded relief. Painted in light and reddish brown as well as black and white. The front horse of a four-in-hand team with elaborate bridle is preserved. The differently colored legs of the other three horses can still be seen at the bottom and the remains of the mane of the white horse at the top. A wonderful depiction of a horse! With certificate of authenticity from Galerie Günter Puhze, Freiburg im Breisgau! Published in: I. Jucker, Italy of the Etruscans. Exhibition Jerusalem (1991) p. 254 no. 328 (copy enclosed). Broken at the sides, color very well preserved and only rubbed in a few small places, with beautiful metal stand. Provenance: From the R. L. Collection, Lower Saxony, acquired in 2009 from Galerie Puhze, Freiburg im Breisgau; formerly in the C.-A. Collection, Geneva.
