Format A4 Dick Ayers born Richard Ayers (1924-2014) is a comic book artist who began his career at the end of the Golden Age of comics, but is best known for his work as a cartoonist or inker at Marvel Comics during the Silver Age. From 1952, he also began working for Timely Comics, and when Timely, now Marvel, launched new superhero series, Stan Lee entrusted him with episodes on The Fantastic Four, The Incredible Hulk and Sgt. Fury as a cartoonist or inker. In the 1970s, he worked for DC Comics, where he drew episodes of numerous series, including Kamandi, Jonah Hex, Freedom Fighters, and Unknown Soldier, and in 1980, he worked for Archie Comics. In 1967 and 1968, the comic book series Sgt. Fury and his Howling Commandoes, drawn by Ayers, won the Alley Award for Best War Comic. In 2007, Dick Ayers was inducted into the Will Eisner Award Hall of Fame.
