[Atlases & Maps] [Utrecht] Atlas van de provincie Utrecht Amst., J. Covens en C. Mortier, 1743. 2nd (reworked) ed. Complete w. 17 maps/ prints w. exact title: "Nieuwe kaart van den Lande van Utrecht volgens ordre van d’Ed. Mog. Heeren Staten (...) doen meten en in kaart brengen, door Bernard du Roy, ingenieur"; G. Hoet (ornaments); T. Doesburgh (design). The 17 copper engr. sheets together depict the Province of Utrecht and were intended to form a wall map from the composite parts. Vellum. Folio (55.5 x 38 cm). Publ. without title-p.; complete as such. The atlas is in rather good condition w. beautiful colouring. Spine is damaged; the atlas has dampstaining, mainly on the centre folds and top and bottom of the sheets, resulting in sl. discoloration, 1 sheet w. (amateur) repair, a few maps w. repaired tears and some sm. holes. Rare. As a whole, the province of Utrecht wall map would look like: Centrally the 10 consecutive maps; below that smaller parts (4 sm. map parts and 1 cartouche part). At the top the title: NOVA TABULA DIOCESEOS TRAJECTINAE, to the right 7 coats of arms. At the bottom the 5 town views of Utrecht, Amersfoort, Montfoort, Rhenen and Wijk bij Duurstede and to the left the other 7 coats of arms. 1 wall map in 17 sheets; 120 x 185 cm, each sheet 56 x 37 cm, map w. title and border 166 x 225 cm. The maps were usually coloured; the cartouche and side panels were not.
