Null Beautiful polychrome opaque painted enamel plaque depicting the Last Supper…
Description

Beautiful polychrome opaque painted enamel plaque depicting the Last Supper in an architectural setting with ringed columns, small figures in arms and lintel adorned with cabochons on paillon; blue-gray counter-enamel. Limoges, Workshop of Léonard Nardon Penicaud (circa 1470-1542), circa 1515-1525. Two aspects of Nardon Penicaud's style are evident here. Firstly, the massive figures are clad in cloaks with Gothic folds, in an architectural setting that bears elements of 15th-century fillings. To this heritage of the previous century, he adds the novelties of the Renaissance, with the presence of columns with classical capitals and small figures in arms close to the tympanum. Penicaud's own style of face-painting is also clearly visible here, with small mouths and well-defined eyes, with eyelids highlighted in white. Slight accidents, oxidation of some enamels, base. H. 14.5 cm - L. 11.2 cm Provenance : Jean Roudillon Collection
