First French edition, translated by Antoine Heroet, of this work partly by Léon-Baptiste Alberti. Born in Genoa in 1404 and died in Rome in 1472, Léon-Baptiste Alberti was one of the great humanists of his time: philosopher, painter, mathematician, architect... His Hecatomphile is a treatise on love and a collection of advice for girls in this field. Hecatomphile is a kind of treatise on love and a collection of advice for girls in this field. This part is written in prose and was translated by Antoine Heroet, a 16th-century poet who was close to Marot and celebrated platonic love in his verse. The second part of the work, entitled Les fleurs de Poesie Françoyse is a suite of verse pieces, some of which were written by François I. A very fine, well-adjusted copy. Small shock at the top of the cups. Provenance: Robert Hoe (bookplate,I, April 24, 1911, no. 38) and Cortland Bishop (bookplate,I, April 5, 1938, no. 37).
