Description

MERCEDES-BENZ 190SL, 1961. Chassis: 121040-10-021883 Registration: 7369 QM 64 First registration: 29/07/1961 Mileage (not guaranteed): 97,532 km Vehicle in need of repair Normal registration In the same collection since 1974 European version with HARDTOP Hood in good condition Floor to be revised Carburetor modification. Presentation: At the beginning of the 1950s, under the impetus of its American importer Max Hoffman, Mercedes-Benz developed two new automobiles that were to revolutionize its image and meet with resounding success. At the 1954 New York Motor Show, the new Mercedes-Benz "SL" range appeared, standing for "Sport Leicht", with the super-sporty 300SL on one side and the 190SL on the other, an elegant, more affordable alternative. The exclusive 300SL had a limited run, but succeeded in anchoring Mercedes-Benz in the collective imagination thanks to its "Gullwing" gullwing doors. Its little sister, the extremely well-built and easy-to-maintain 190SL, was a machine whose personality laid the foundations for a line of SL roadsters that has continued to this day, that of a comfortable, high-performance grand tourer with distinctive styling. Between 1955 and 1963, almost 26,000 examples of the 190SL were produced, 80% of them for the American market. The example presented by Côte Basque Enchères is a rarer European version, equipped with a hard-top. While this equipment has become widespread over the generations of Mercedes-Benz SLs, it is much rarer to find it on a 190SL. In the same hands since 1974, this Mercedes-Benz has undergone an almost 50-year-old restoration that changed its original color to the typical German gray. Despite the quality of its workmanship, a few signs of age are visible on the paintwork, and a trade-in may be considered to restore this beautiful body to its former glory. With its mechanics in working order and soft top in good condition, there's not much missing from this roadster to be appreciated as it should be. An appraisal report is available on request and provides further details on what needs to be done. With its enchanting natural elegance, a little attention will restore this beautiful Mercedes-Benz 190SL to its original beauty. Consultant : Ulysse JAMES - Tel: +33(0)7.63.16.31.52
