Holzstich, Handdruck, nach dem Gedicht Goethes: "bei der Betrachtung von Schillers Schaedel" ESTIMATE °€ 100 - 200 STARTING PRICE °€ 100 After the First World War, the Austrian graphic artist, bookplate illustrator and painter Rudolf Köhl attended the graphic arts training and research institute and courses at the Vienna School of Applied Arts. In 1926 he exhibited collections of his graphic works at the International Exhibition “Modern Artistic Writing”. Köhl's estate is kept by the Austrian National Library. The picture shows the old Freiherr Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749 - 1832), who thoughtfully looks at the skull of his poet colleague and friend Friedrich Schiller (1859 - 1805). Goethe wrote the poem "Bei Betrachtung von Schillers Schädel" (Comtemplating Schiller's Skull) which the picture is based on in 1826. This is the coloured version of the woodcut.
