FINE PAIR OF GENERAL OFFICER POMMEL PISTOLS VENDEMIAIRE AN XII TYPE. Hair-rifled, slightly blunderbussed barrels decorated with double gold fillet at the muzzles, with silver sights, signed "Boutet Directeur Artiste" on the left and "Manufacture à Versailles" on the right, decorated with gold thunderbolts of flaming grenades, oak leaf branches and pyramids; hallmarked "BC" on the left, "Boutet" in the center and "NB" on the right; "LG". Turntables signed "Manufacture à Versailles" and flat-bodied swan-neck dogs. Bassinets with large moving spark guards. Plain hammers and basin covers, battery feet with retroussis. Plain steel trimmings, cut, inlaid, with wide bridges and triggers. Counterplate rosettes and all guilloche screws, two drumstick holders; all metal poliglazed. Magnificent oval pommels, of an uncommon design, with the head of a bearded Jupiter with hair in semi-round relief, on a bitter background, bordered by a series of oves and lozenges in a rosary. Finely squared and carved walnut brackets. Light horn and brass rods. Very high quality. First Empire period (small traces of oxidation on the sides of the barrels, 20% color restoration). Length: 40 cm. Caliber: 17.2 mm. Provenance : -Sabran Ponteves family According to family tradition, these pistols were a gift from Marshal Murat.
