(1522). LUDOLPHE DE SAXE. VITA JESU CHRISTI redemptoris nostri ex fecundissimis evangeliorum sententiis et approbatis ab ecclesia doctoribus excerpta. Lyon, Guillaume Huyon for Jacques Giunta and François Giunta, April 12, 1522. In-4° gothic, [12]-411-[3] leaves, stiff vellum, ribbed spine, cold garland on boards, blue edges (19th century binding). This work, first published in Strasbourg in 1474, was one of the most widespread writings of the 14th and 15th centuries. This 2-column Gothic edition from Lyon features a title printed in red and black in a Renaissance frame with a triptych depicting the Nativity, the Kiss of Judas and the Crucifixion - found on the first numbered leaf - and a HUNDRED OF SMALL WOODWORKS (27 x 20 mm) to enhance the reading experience. Ludolphe de Saxe, a German ascetic writer, was prior of the Carthusian monastery in Strasbourg.
