Eduard Schleich jun., Bucolic Landscape A herd of cows seeking shelter under the trees at the edge of the forest during an approaching thunderstorm, on the horizon a suggestive body of water with further grazing farm animals, in colour and brushwork almost reminiscent of Barbizon, high-quality, study-like landscape painting, oil on canvas, 2nd half 19th century, signed "Ed[uard] Schleich" lower left, probably old ownership annotation "Fassnacht" on the frame verso, minor retouches and craquelure and in need of cleaning, in an attractive gilded moulding of the period, folded dimensions approx. 31 x 53 cm, frame dimensions approx. 46 x 68 cm, artist information: dt. Landscape painter (1853 Munich to 1893 Munich), son and pupil of Eduard Schleich the Elder (1812-1874) for a few months, studied from 1875 at the Munich Academy under Julius Zimmermann and Joseph Wenglein, exhibited in Dresden, Nuremberg, Munich, Berlin and Vienna, active in Munich, source: Thieme-Becker, Matrikel der Münchner Akademie, Boetticher, Müller-Singer, Bénézit, Saur Bio-Bibliographisches Künstlerlexikon and Bruckmann "Münchner Maler des 19. Jh.".
