LINGA – YONI du XVIIe siècle

"CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY - Linga with integrated Yoni, composed of cells containing small stone Lingas and a central cell containing a larger stone Linga. Lost-wax bronze. - Origin: North India. - Period: Seventeenth century. Paris, July 8, 1997 - Jean LOSTALEM - Le Louvre des Antiquaires Paris. (This certificate of authenticity will be given to the purchaser). Height : 17 cm Length 19 cm. Good condition. The upright stone (liñga) in the center is the classical representation of Shiva, in his phallic form. The liñga is encased in its feminine counterpart (Sñânadronî), a very shallow, round vessel ending in a spout (somasûtra). Ablutions performed on the liñga fill the sñânadronî and flow outwards, through the somasûtra, into a basin where sacred waters are collected by devotees.
