German carver (active 2nd half of the 19th century) Madonna Ivory, carved in full relief. Finely executed depiction of the young, graceful, crowned Mother of God with devoutly lowered eyelids and long, curly hair falling down in a floor-length dress, holding the child in the crook of her right arm. The finely carved statuette is full of deep meaning, inspired by the Beautiful Madonnas of the late Gothic period. Minimally damaged; h. 13.5 cm. CITES certificate available. Production: Theodor Müller, Weimar or Koch & Bergfeld, Bremen. D. 27.7 cm. Weight: 657 grams. Inscribed: Artist's signet 925 crescent crown. 'The relief decoration of the flag in the form of stylized waves is subtly raised and resembles the whiplash motif of the Meissen porcelain service created at the same time. The plate was designed as part of the silver gift for the wedding of the Grand Duke of Weimar. A copy of this plate was listed in the exhibition catalog at the 'Linie und Form' exhibition in Krefeld in 1904 and was subsequently acquired by the Kaiser Wilhelm Museum, where it is still located today. The upper part, supported by two slender columns around which dragons wrap, depicts an Asian temple and is closed by a glass door. Resting on six scrolled feet Richly carved with dragons, fantastical animals, acroteria, flowers and foliage; the temple columns adorned with ideograms, the main door with friezes of flowering foliage. * Paesine box, round form, the hinge in low-title gold (< 9K 375‰), with enrubanné decoration, the lid adorned with a miniature depicting a galant feast under a glass. Traces of use, some lifting of material on the miniature, reused parchment from a manuscript. Paesine is also commonly known as Florence marble, and is used in certain decorations because its veins sometimes form landscape-like patterns. Diameter: 5.90 cm Gross weight: 83.80 g

A George III gold-mounted amethyst seal, unmarked, circa 1810-20, shaped oblong form, chased with two anchors and two ships, the matrix seal engraved with crest of a ship in distress, probably for Pellew, height 5cm. Provenance: A Private Collection. The crest of Pellew is probably that for Edward Pellew, Viscount Exmouth (1757-1833).
