Maison Roche, 1945 Dining room furniture including a table, six chairs, two armchairs and a sideboard in beech and ash. The rectangular table, with two lateral extensions, rests on two legs in skids joined by an H-shaped brace decorated with gilded brass. The six chairs and two armchairs with cabriolet backs rest on tapered legs, upholstered in burgundy leather. The sideboard, in a slightly curved enfilade with rounded upper corners, opens in front with two leaves surrounded by two side doors revealing three levels of shelves on the sides and two levels of shelves and three drawers in the central part. It closes with an important crenellated lock, with two gilded brass rings, surrounded by an ornamental burr plate. A cornice overhangs the moving base decorated with a gilded brass scroll motif. Table : Height 72,5, Width 103,5 Length 192,5 ; with the extensions Length 284,5 cm. Chair : Height 94 Width 47 Depth 47 cm. Armchairs: Height 95 Width 56 Depth 45 cm. Sideboard : Height 91 Length 229,5 Depth 56 cm (wear, stains, traces, fragility on the system of extensions) Provenance : - acquired from Jacques Roche in Paris for the sum of 181.000 francs - collection Bessou, Paris - by descent, Touraine. The Roche establishments were founded at the end of the First World War by Fernand Roche. Initially a furniture wholesaler, he switched to production in 1925. In 1936, his son Jacques took over the family business, followed by his grandsons Philippe and Jacques. In 1960, the company joined forces with the Chouchan family, owners of the Bobois house. The company is now known under the name Roche Bobois.
