RARE SÈVRES PORCELAIN PLATE FROM THE "SERVICE AGRONOMIQUE With polychrome decoration in the center of the basin of an animated interior scene in winter, captioned in gold at the bottom "Rural School", with several children in front of their teacher, surrounded by a frieze of alternating circular patterns in gold standing out on a blue background, the border decorated with a frieze of palmettes and braids in gold standing out on a blue agate background. Good condition, slight wear to the blue background. Royal Manufacture of Sevres, 1839. Mark with the blue stamp with the figure of the king Louis-Philippe dated 1839, mark of the famous painter Jean-Charles Develly (active in Sèvres 1813-1847) dated 1839 and of the gilder Antoine Boullemier (active in Sèvres 1802-1842). D. 24 cm. Provenance The magnificent service called "agronomic" is described in the archives of the Manufacture de Sèvres "agate blue background, blue zone, frieze of gold palmettes, figures representing agronomic scenes etc.". It was presented at the Exhibition of the Products of Industry in the Louvre on December 27, 1832 under the n°25, then on May 1, 1835 under the n°20, and entered the store of sale of Sevres on October 18, 1834. It was bought on credit by Prince Ferdinand-Philippe d'Orléans, Duke of Orléans (1810-1842), eldest son of King Louis-Philippe, in December 1837 (Arch. Sèvres, Vbb9, 72). This complete dessert service included several pieces of shapes and was originally composed of 48 plates, at the high cost of 175 frs each. It was restocked with 13 dinner plates on 12 December 1837. On August 22, 1842, 36 plates were delivered to Baron de Rothschild (Vz6, 103), then in July 1848, 72 others were delivered to General Cavaignac, head of the executive power (Vbb11, 23 v°).
