19th century photographic camera, brand L.CAVALIER CHARLES CHEVALIER POUR L' OPTIQUE. This important wooden camera on a rack, with a rolling base and black bellows, comes from the workshop of a photographer of the mid-nineteenth century. The metal plate attached to the top of the camera bears the words: "ETABLISSEMENTS L. CAVALIER, 65 - 67 Rue des Archives Paris." The brass lens is marked "Photographe, à verres combinés, inventé par CHARLES CHEVALIER Ingénieur, Palais Royal N° 58 Paris." Height: 143 - Width: 72 - Depth: 74 - Diameter of the lens: 11.5 cm In spite of a few small missing pieces, traces of worming, and accidents on the cabinetwork, this workshop room deserves to recover its brilliance after some restorations. The L. Cavalier brand is responsible for beautiful cabinetry for studio and portable cameras. Charles Chevalier, a precursor with his father for optics, worked, from 1823 - 1825, for the inventor of photography Nicéphore Niepce and then with Daguerre at the end of the 1830s and during the 1840s. Because of his reputation in this field, C. Chevalier named some of his lenses "Photographe". (This mention is on the lens of the camera presented here). Expert : Mister Yves Di Maria.
