Luxurious Russian knife for bear hunting. Handle in green nephrite. Metal ferrule and iron guard with two inverted quillons. Strong straight blade with gutter and counter edge marked in Cyrillic "To Pierre Samsonov". Wooden scabbard covered with stingray and two cut metal fittings, spherical stinger. Length of the blade: 25 cm. Total length: 38 cm. Imperial Russia, 19th century. Pierre Samsonov, probably the father of the legendary Yegor Petrovich Samsonov, who settled in Tula near Moscow and was a supplier of bear hunting knives to Tsar Nicholas II, the Imperial Court and the Imperial Hunting Society.
