Description

Simon Goldberg (1913-1985) Naked woman from behind Plaster Signed (lower right): "S. GOLDBERG 36,6 x 16,8 x 5 cm Born in Paris in 1913, Simon Goldberg entered the studio of the sculptor Élysée Cavaillon in 1926, a former member of the Schnegg gang, with whom he learned drawing. The following year, Louis Rueff introduced him to wood sculpture. In 1931, he participated in modeling classes given by Robert Wlérick and drawing classes by Charles Malfray. In 1938, he organized an exhibition with his friend the sculptor Raymond Corbin. Several drawings were added to the collections of the museums of Nevers, Valence and Granville. He was commissioned by the State to create a stone sculpture, Femme assise. In 1948, he was commissioned to create the Monument to the Memory of the Resistance for the town of La Chapelle-Montlinard (Cher) and for the town of Saint-Étienne.
