MICHAUX Henri. CORRESPONDENCE RELATING TO PRALAYA, 1948. Typescript letter signed: 1p. in-4 (270 x 210 mm), recto simple. "to M. Gheerbrant, director of La Hune, November 11, 1948 Dear Sir, What a nice surprise this PRALAYA magazine is, where I see my pages all over the place. I formally forbid that any more of my texts should be mixed up in this bad joke by insiders with a lack of Pralaya. Needless to say, I had never given permission for a line of mine to be published there, and no one had the temerity to ask me. In fact, most of these texts date from 1943, and to present them as unpublished when you've read them in the "cahiers du sud" and elsewhere during the war, and even in book form (with the exception of one), is a clear indication of how all this Pralaya should be understood. Since you have a role in this magazine, it would be a good idea for you to persuade that incorrigible Godet, should his imbecilic work ever get a No. 2, to use names other than Artaud's and mine to go with his Indé-machins and Maha Chohans, and to cover up what smacks from afar of a hoax. If only his tralaya were funny... Salutations, Henri Michaux" Autograph letter signed: 1 p. in-8 (137 x 110 mm), in turquoise blue ink. [Paris], November 11, 1948. "Surely it's not to Saillet that one will learn to read. But as Pralaya, after an unpublished work by Rimbaud (?) and one by Artaud unduly cut and one by me after Wei poetry, and Leu astrology, announces esodermic leaves (or should I say really esoteric, like the Pralayens themselves, and even I believe "mesoteric"!). I didn't think it was excessive to defend my peel. This gesture shouldn't appear pretentious to you, Your Henri Michaux". PRALAYA, N° 1, October 1948 Paris, director: Robert J. Godet, 1948: in-4 (270 x 210 mm) of 20 pp. - Stapled, illustrated cover. First edition of the only published issue of this rare literary deception conceived by Robert J. Godet. Texts allegedly unpublished or in the style of Henri Michaux, Antonin Artaud, Arthur Rimbaud, etc., under various pseudonyms, by Robert J. Godet.
