TORCHE OLYMPIQUE

OFFICIAL TORCH OF THE Xth OLYMPIC WINTER GAMES OF GRENOBLE Torch made of copper sheet metal with a handle partly covered with orange felt and a protective sleeve to hide the burner. The upper part of the sleeve is openwork to make a windbreak. The sleeve is also decorated with three medallions showing the badge of the Olympic Games of Grenoble which was created by Roger EXCOFFON (1910 - 1983). This torch was manufactured by STEFI (Société Technique d'Etudes et Fournitures Industrielles) H : 76,5 cm. (Very good state of conservation. Some traces of oxidation and scratches. Small lack of copper in the lower part). Our torch, which belonged to the deputy director of the external relations, member of the COJO and person in charge of the Olympic flame, is accompanied by many elements on the games of Grenoble and on the torch itself, which attest of its origin: - Letter and handwritten card of the president of the STEFI attesting of the handing-over of the flame "... it is with joy that we offer you one of the torches which assured during two months the permanence of the Olympic flame ". Dated March 6, 1968. - Typed letter of the General Director of the COJO, Doctor Robert Héraud, to the Minister of the Interior to congratulate "the professional and moral qualities [...] necessary to the success of this very exceptional enterprise" of the assistant director of the external relations. June 1968 - Typed documents of the office of press of the Olympic Games on the National route of the Olympic Flame which took place from December 19, 1967 till February 6, 1968. This document lists all that happened around this route (manufacture of the flame, Carriers, demonstrations, difficulties met, etc...) - Mission order of the Ministry of the Interior for the provision to the organizing committee of the Olympic Games of Grenoble. - Set of press clippings on the Olympic Games of Grenoble of which two articles written by the assistant director of the external relations - Sets of original photographs on the torch and the route of this one. - Two invitations for the competitions and the ceremonies of the Olympic Games, in a sheath marked with the Olympic rings. - Olympic passport of the COJO and badge of permanent circulation on all the stands of the event - Important set of stamps, postcards and greeting cards on the Xth Olympic Games - Set of products with the Olympic logo: playing cards, Gitane cigarettes (one pack in blister pack), key rings (one in blister pack) and pins (mostly edited by Artus Bertrand - Paris and two created by Excoffon which are similar to the medallions on the torch mantle), bottle opener, note pad and two maps of the competition sites. - Two medals in bronze by Josette Hébert-Coëffin (1907 - 1973), medallist who realized the medals of the event. As well as five medallions of Excoffon - Official report of the Xth Olympic Games of Grenoble. Numbered copy with handwritten mention given by Albert Michallon - former mayor of Grenoble and President of the organizing committee of the Olympic Games - to the deputy director of the external relations, responsible for the Flame of the Xth Olympic Winter Games of Grenoble in 1968. OLYMPIC TORCH OF THE Xth WINTER OLYMPICS IN GRENOBLE A copper patinated metal torch, the stick partially covered with orange baize and topped with a protective sleeve hidding the burner. Top part of the sleeve is openworked to serve as windbreaker, while is shows three lockets with the Grenoble's Olympics emblem that Roger Excoffon (1910 - 1983) designed. This torch was crafted by the STEFI (Société Technique d'Etudes et Fournitures Industrielles). H : 30,12 inch (Very good original vintage condition, with a few oxydization traces and slight scratches plus a small lack of copper on the low part) Our torch, which belonged to the assistant director for the external relations, COJO member and in charge of the Olympic Torch, comes with many documents on the Grenoble's Games and the torch itself that certifies its provenance : - Handwritten letter and card from the STEFI Chairman testifying of the handing over of the torch " ... c'est avec joie que nous vous offrent un des flambeaux qui ont assuré durant deux mois la permanence de la flamme olympique " (eng : " it is with a great joy we offer you one of the torch that ensured for two month the persitence of the Olympic's flame "). Dated from 1968, March the 6th - Typewritten letter from the Dr Robert Héraud, COJO's Chief Executive, to the Ministry of the Interior praising for "the high professional and moral qualities [...] necessary to promote the success of this very extraordinary avent
