The liner Normandie was launched on October 29, 1932, in front of a large crowd. Marguerite Lebrun, wife of the President and godmother of the ship, broke the traditional bottle of champagne on her bow. After a lengthy refit, the liner was inaugurated in Le Havre on May 23, 1935, at a gala dinner for some 1,000 guests held on board. At the time, Normandie was the world's largest ocean liner, breaking the Atlantic crossing record on her maiden voyage. Attached is the menu for the banquet given to mark the INAUGURATION of the Quai de France and the CHERBOURG MARITIME STATION by Albert Lebrun, offered by the Conseil général de la Manche, the city of Cherbourg and the Cherbourg Chamber of Commerce, 4 pp. in-8, illustrated with 2 photographic views, banquet served by L'Hôtelier and Barabinot, with the program for the presidential trip, in-16, 12 pp.
