MAPUCHE, Araucania region, Chile/Argentina. Very beautiful rectangular wall carpet in llama wool, beautiful polychromy and decoration of stylized characters and geometric patterns. The edges have fringes and rings on one side to hang the carpet as often practiced in southern Patagonia. 1st half of the 20th century or earlier. Size: 105 x 80 cm. Provenance : Private collection from Lyon. Note: These objects were brought back by a Frenchman who worked in Santiago de Chile at the Almacen Paris, the equivalent at the time of the Lafayette galleries founded by the first French immigrants.
