One of 25 deluxe copies on ivory board, nr. 3. According to Mariën this leaflet '... was a response to the agitation provoked by the royal question which would lead, six years later, to the abdication of Leopold III'. At Magritte's instigation, the execution of Louis XVI is illustrated by a seascape and the crucified Christ confronted with an erotic photograph by Man Ray. The pamphlet calls for the elimination of the Pope, "the supreme provocateur of all crimes against the emancipation of man, (...) Pius, the twelfth pig of that name (...)"; and quotes Saint-Just: "A king, whoever he is, is condemned by nature. One cannot reign innocently. Le pamphlet demande l'élimination du pape, "le provocateur suprême de tous les crimes contre l'émancipation de l'homme, (...)
