Description

Red morocco writing case with gilt decoration of a frieze of stylized flowers and a semi monogram MM and CC for Marie de Médicis or Louise Marguerite de Lorraine. The leather is incised with geometrical patterns, applied with an openwork rosette (strong gaps). Monogrammed brass corners, lock, hook and handle in gilded metal. Parisian work around 1620-1630. H.: 14cm; W.: 38.5cm; D.: 27cm. Accidents, lacks, as is. The presence of the iron with the double M on the bindings executed for the queen Marie de Médicis attests the origin of our box (Olivier, Hermal and Roton, 1924-1938, XXVI, pl.2504). A model with strong similarities was presented in the exhibition "Un temps exubérance, les arts décoratifs sous Louis XIII et Anne d'Autriche, Paris, Grand Palais, 2002, n°296
