Description

JORGE CANO (Madrid, 1973). "Peking, 1955", 2006. Acrylic on canvas. Signed, dated and titled on the back. Measurements: 202 x 142 cm. Acrylic on canvas in which the artist represents several characters holding a gun with their right hand raised to the sky. The figure in the foreground and the character on the left stand out specially, because they have been portrayed with more precision by the artist. Their facial gestures, which denote joy and enthusiasm, can be appreciated. The young people standing outside seem to be part of a demonstration. Although the artist does not make any specific reference to this theme. However, perhaps because of the banner in the background and the attitude of the young people, the viewer intuits a piece with a certain political charge. Jorge Cano is an artist from Madrid who works with various formats, such as photography, sculpture and video. He has an extensive exhibition career and has participated in numerous exhibitions, including "fracasso", held at the Sala de Arte Joven de Madrid (2010), "De repente nada", a project he developed with Alfredo Igualador, "La Despernada", held in Villanueva de la Cañada (2009), "Paint in Black" which took place at the Galeria Magda Belloti (2006) and "Ida y vuelta", among others. He has also participated in several fairs such as ARCO, or Arte Santander. Today his work is divided in different private collections and cultural institutions of great artistic interest, such as the Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo (CA2M), the Cruce space in Madrid, or the Ateneo de Madrid.
