In which are exactly marked the roads which it is necessary to hold, the Banks of sands, Rocks & Breaks of water; & generally all that relates to the Navigation. The whole made on the observations & experience of the most skilful Engineers & Pilots. Revised & put in order by Sieurs Pene, Cassini & others.Paris, at Hubert Jaillot aux deux Globes, 1693 In reality: [Amsterdam, Pieter Mortier, 1693] Large folio, calf with gilt framing. Including its frontispiece "Le Neptune François" by Jan Van Vianen, the title page illustrated with a vignette, 6 pages of text paginated 2, 3, 4, 5, 6; the Table of scales. Followed by 3 plates: "Vessel of the first rank bearing Admiral's flag. J. van Vianen fecit"; "Section of an Admiral of 104 guns with its main proportions and the names of the pieces inside"; "Section of a galley with its proportions. Keel of a galley on the yard". Followed by 28 enhanced maps in 56 pages. Condition report: Binding very worn, spine torn/scratched (very poor condition - to be fully restored). Freckles, wetness, folds, wormholes and tears to margins, discharges to verso of enhanced plates... Text and plates fully mounted on tabs, page of the Table of scales trimmed.
