FLAMBEAU À LA GRENOUILLE Manufacture de Mennecy-Villeroy, circa 1740-1750 Polychrome enamelled soft-paste porcelain, gilded brass Good condition, a chip in the water lily leaf glued back H. 8.5 cm, diameter: 15 cm Provenance Former collection of the Count and Countess Niel Private collection, Paris, since 2012 This gilt brass hand candlestick, decorated with foliage on the socket and the handle, is enriched with a turquoise enamelled soft paste porcelain decoration. On a water lily leaf, between two small white flowers highlighted with yellow, red, pink, blue and green, mounted on a brass stem, a frog supports the torch. It raises its head, ready to pounce! If by its style, our torch evokes the pieces issued from the Manufacture of Chantilly, the turquoise colour of the enamel allows to attribute its manufacture to the Manufacture of Mennecy-Villeroy.
