Plate with putto as Neptune. Ignaz Preissler (attributed), probably Breslau. Probably around 1725. Ignaz Preissler1676 Friedrichswald - 1741 Kronstadt Porcelain, glazed, painted in Schwarzlot. Rounded form, double stand ring. On the underside in the body under the glaze an incised "2" or "IV". The mirror with a putto depicted as Neptune, the flag with surrounding grotesque foliage ornament and bird depictions, so-called "Preußler rim". Unmarked. One of three known plates with the same motif on different shards. Cf. a plate with the same motif from the collection of Dr. W. von Dallwitz (presumably Wolfgang Johann Sigismund von Dallwitz-Torno, 1863-1928) in: Pazaurek, Gustav E.: Deutsche Fayence und Hausmaler, vol. 1, Leipzig 1925, no. 200 with illustration, no dimensions given. The collection of Dallwitz was purchased by the Märkisches Museum Berlin in 1917/18. Ornamental and cloud painting unprofessionally restored at the same place. Painting partially rubbed and with dull areas as well as with tiny scratch marks. Inner stand ring with chip. Dimensions: D. 25 cm. Ignaz Preissler 1676 Friedrichswald - 1741 Kronstadt Ignaz Preissler received his first artistic instruction from his father, a glass and porcelain painter, who from 1680 ran his own workshop for the landowner Franz Karl Liebsteinsky von Kolowrat.Probably he continued his education in Nuremberg. 1715-20 to Breslau, from 1729 employed by Kolowrat. As a glass and porcelain painter Ignanz Preissler specialized in black lot painting in the baroque style.
