Lot 51 - Kannon and his two servants Longnü and Shancai, on an altar surrounded by ten praying devotees Carved ivory bearing various old handwritten inscriptions in ink below the terrace, titled ASA KA 朝 香 (morning incense) in intaglio. Japan, Meiji era (1868-1912), circa 1900. Total height: 15.7 cm Gross weight: 269 g Minor accidents and chips. The divinity with a small round mark on her forehead is is seated on a seat resting on an oval tower-shaped base. At 3 cm, the base widens but retains the same shape. It is topped by a balustrade cut off at the front. A child leans against the highest pedestal, arms in the air. 9 little men surround the base of the pedestal. One climbs a ladder, the others raise their arms in supplication to the goddess. The divinity is topped with a veil that falls back and hides her shoulders and body. 140 francs. Lot 52 - Butsudan in the form of a quadrangular ivory pagoda featuring a standing Kannon accompanied by LongNü and Shancai in front of a perfume burner. The side panels and architrave are adorned with tennins hovering in the air, playing various instruments. The roof is adorned with a dragon chasing the sacred pearl among the clouds, and topped with a lotiform ridge. Silver clasp decorated with foliage. Below, an old inventory number handwritten in ink, and three engraved characters. Japan, Meiji era (1868-1912), circa 1900. Holding the pagoda up to the light, the transparency is marvelously fine. Inside, an ivory goddess, 1 hand raised, the other lowered, but both holding onto the body. 2 altar boys in front on either side of a perfume burner at the foot of the goddess. The other man, standing, holds a mold with squared-off, protruding designs in his left hand, while his right hand, index finger and thumb turned down, holds a small rectangular basket on top of a rectangular box. Lot 56 - Cylindrical Zushi (portable shrine) opening with two leaves decorated with rakan landscapes on the front, revealing a seated Kannon statuette. Finely carved ivory. The rear panel features a scene of rakan meeting the phoenix. The roof, with its lozenge-shaped ridge, is also adorned with phoenixes. The whole rests on a tripod wooden base decorated with foliage. Below, an antique label bearing the handwritten mention 42.
