Lot 226 - Cartier, "Tortue", 13969/3249/8852, circa 1920. An exceptional and primitive gold and platinum tonneau-shaped ladies' watch, diamond-set handles and bezel, silver dial, external minute track, radiating Roman numerals, blued steel hands. Diamond-set winding crown, yellow gold caseback secured by 4 screws on the middle, hand-wound mechanical movement signed Cartier/Paris. White gold bracelet with yellow gold folding clasp (numbered 487, hallmarked EJ and engraved Bte S.G.D.G.), the outer clasp adorned with rose-cut diamonds, hallmarked gold and platinum. Delivered in its original case, the watch is functional and in very good condition more than a century after its manufacture. Dial signed CARTIER, caseback with classic triple numbering, movement signed CARTIER PARIS, numbered folding clasp and Edmond Jaeger hallmark. The turn of the 20th century is particularly significant in the history of the House of Cartier, starting with its move to 13 rue de la Paix. After the opening of the London address and the first wristwatch on leather developed for Santos Dumont, a number of creations soon followed, models of which are still in use today and as popular as ever. In 1917, in parallel with the creation of the Tank, Pierre Cartier bought Morton Plant's iconic building on Fifth Avenue in New York for one hundred dollars and a pearl necklace (valued at one million dollars) for Mr. Plant's wife. It was in 1912 that Louis Cartier designed the first "Tortue" watch, which, once offered in the catalog, never left it. Our example represents a particularly rare opportunity to find a watch combining the aesthetic and historical aspects emblematic of the "jeweler of kings and king of jewelers", a famous phrase coined by the Prince of Wales and future Edward VII. Case size: 20 x 20 mm - With handles: 30 x 20 mm - Wrist circumference 15.50 cm - B.P. 35.5 g. An exceptional and primitive yellow gold and platinum tonneau-shape laidies wristwatch, the case in platinum with diamond-set bezel and lugs, silver dial, outer minute-track and radiant Roman numerals, blued steel hands. Yellow gold back secured by four screws in the ban, diamond-set crown, manual winding movement signed CARTIER PARIS. Original white gold band with yellow gold deployant buckle (stamped with maker's mark EJ in a lozenge, Bte S.G.D.G. and numbered 487), the exterior clasp adorned with rose-cut diamonds. Fitted with its original box, the watch is working and in very good condition, more than a century after its manufacture. Dial signed CARTIER, case back with the classic Cartier triple numbering, movement signed CARTIER PARIS, numbered buckle and maker's mark EJ for Edmond Jaeger, assay mark for gold and platinum. Lot 243 - Cabestan, Winch Tourbillon Vertical, from a sponsorship contract, probably around 2008. A very impressive, innovative and futuristic trapezoid-shaped titanium watch in confidential production, a veritable showcase for an incomparable mechanical movement. Two separate thermoformed glass shells offer a 360-degree view of a vertical hand-wound mechanical movement with a fusee and chain system. Hours, minutes, power reserve and seconds read off on rotating drums, with the seconds fixed to the tourbillon, itself mounted in a vertical position. Transparent screw-down caseback, titanium folding clasp housing a glass compartment housing the winch for winding and setting the time. Winding and time-setting are performed via two separate crowns on the case middle, using the winch or a special tool supplied with the watch. Our working watch, with no defects other than tiny traces of supercifi cation, comes from a sponsorship contract with a racing driver. With no number on the case, it could be considered one of the very first watches to come out of the workshops for marketing purposes, or even a prototype. In 2008, production was scheduled at 4 pieces per month, with a customization program that made each of these watches unique or produced in very confidential numbers. The first prototype of the Winch Tourbillon Vertical was presented in 2007. When Vianney Halter gave up production of the watch, Eric Coudray, a former Jaeger-LeCoultre watchmaker who became famous for turning the Gyrotourbillon's spherical biaxial tourbillon, joined the project. The first examples are said to have appeared in 2008, with a price set at around CHF 200,000. "Exceptional aesthetics, incomparable mechanics" and "an assertive personality and a movement of rare ingenuity" were some of the headlines in the trade press when the watch was presented. The vertical constant-force movement, obtained by means of a fusee-and-chain system, would guarantee extremely precise chronometry, compensating for the disruptive effects of terrestrial gravity on watchmaking precision, all housed in a case with a resolutely innovative design. Dim 46 x 36 mm A very impressive, innovative, and futuristic trapezoid-shaped titanium watch made in a limited edition of 135 pieces, a true showcase of unparalleled mechanical movement. Two dissociated thermoformed glass shells offer a 360-degree view of a vertical manual winding mechanical movement, with a chain and fusée system. Digital indications of time in hours, minutes, seconds and power reserve on rotating drums, with the seconds indicated on the tourbillon, itself mounted vertically. Transparent screw-down back, titanium deployant buckle housing a glass compartment containing the winch for winding and setting the time. Our watch, working and without defects other than tiny superficial traces, comes from a sponsorship contract with a racing driver and would have come from production between 2008 and 2010. Without any case number, our watch could may be considered one of the very first watches to come from the workshops for marketing purposes, even maybe as a prototype. Monthly production was estimated in 2008 at 4 examples and offered a personalization program making each of these watches a unique example or produced in a very limited number. The first prototype of the Winch Tourbillon Vertical was shown in 2007. However, Vianney Halter abandoned production of the watch. This saw Eric Coudray, a former watchmaker of Jaeger-LeCoultre who became famous as the master who made the spherical biaxial tourbillon of the Gyrotourbillon watch rotate, join the project. The first examples are believed to have appeared in 2008, with a retail price around 200.000 CHF. "Exceptional aesthetics, unparalleled mechanics" or "a distinctive personality and a movement of rare ingenuity" were often mentioned in the specialized press during the watch's presentation. According to our information, around 150 Sea-Dweller Comex reference 16660 circled indexes were produced. If a Rolex 16660 COMEX is rare, it is absolutely exceptional to find it accompanied by its original documents concerning both the watch and the diver. The watch is in excellent condition, with a dial superbly patinated by the many constraints imposed by Jacques G, both underwater and in the sun of the many countries he visited in the course of his activities. A rare opportunity to acquire one of the brand's icons, with its crystal-clear and beautifully documented history. Sea-Dweller 16660 is a transitional reference affectionately nicknamed "Triple Six" by collectors. Produced for ten years from 1978 and simultaneously with the Sea-Dweller 1665 for almost 5 years, the "Triple Six" is a transitional reference between its predecessor and the 16660, bringing among other evolutions a new caliber with quick date and greater water resistance with the use of sapphire crystal. Jacques G was a diving instructor at EPAT, the French army's parachute diving school. The mission of this army corps is to assist AMX30 and AMX10 tanks in crossing rivers and, if necessary, to rescue tank crews in peril during these perilous crossings. Contacted by SNETI (Syndicat National des Travaux Immergés) while still at EPAT, Jacques G first joined SOGETRAM (Société Générale de Travaux Maritimes), holder in November 1963 of the world record for the first dive to a depth of -100m. At the time, SOGETRAM was the largest company in France in terms of the number of divers it employed. It carried out maritime and river works throughout France and French overseas departments and territories, in all areas of underwater work (ports, dykes, refineries, engineering structures, dams, locks, quays, bridges, nuclear power plant pools, maritime structures, ships, etc.). Following its integration into SOGETRAM, the company was taken over by C.G.DORIS (Compagnie Générale pour le Développement Opérationnelle des Richesses Sous-Marines), which opened the door to international offshore activities. C.G. DORIS is a company specializing in oil platform design. It also owns several operational floating units, such as Supply (a supply vessel) and, above all, work barges, increasing its workforce to 90 divers, many of whom Jacques G trained at the French Army diving school. The company's missions were then extended worldwide to the maritime and river sectors (oil platforms, tankers, pipelines, ports, dams, supertankers), with intense activity in North Africa (Mauritania, Egypt), Black Africa (Gabon, Cameroon, Angola, Ivory Coast, Ghana...) and also in French Polynesia, with underwater assistance to nuclear testing for the CEA (Commissariat à l'énergie atomique) in the GISM (Groupe d'Intervention sous la Mer). In this capacity, Jacques G carried out several missions on the Mururoa and Fangataufa atolls. Later, COMEX SERVICES took over all the divers, including Jacques G, and created STOLT COMEX SEAWAY, while maintaining all activities. Non-exhaustive list of documents concerning Jacques G attached to the watch: Comex pins from various deep-diving missions Fenzi COMEX dive tables 2 Logbooks: 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998 Mission photos Scuba diving professional booklet issued by SNETI: 1983, 1984, 1985, 2 individual diving safety cards: 1983, 1984, 1985, 1989 Hyperbaric fitness certificate: 1993 Record i
