Lot 42 - Éva JOSPIN (né en 1975) - Forest Collage of corrugated cardboard mounted on a wooden frame. 148 x 100 cm Provenance: - Galerie Suzanne Tarasieve, Paris, acquired February 27, 2014. Eva Jospin grew up in an environment conducive to culture and intellectual reflection. Graduating from the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris in 2002, she quickly established herself in the contemporary art world through her unique approach and technical mastery. Following her studies at the Beaux-Arts, she began exploring different media before devoting herself to a specific artistic practice that sets her apart today: cardboard sculpture. Her widely acclaimed work is exhibited in numerous galleries and museums in France and abroad. Notable exhibitions include her participation in the Nuit Blanche in Paris in 2013, where she installed an imposing cardboard forest in the square courtyard of the Louvre. She has also exhibited at the Fondation Bullukian in Lyon, the Palais de Tokyo, and most recently at the Palais des Pape in Avignon. Her material of choice is cardboard, which she sculpts with remarkable precision and meticulousness to create complex, three-dimensional forest landscapes. This choice of material, humble and banal, contrasts with the grandeur and majesty of the works she succeeds in extracting from it, highlighting the beauty hidden in everyday objects. Her cardboard sculptures are often monumental and immersive, allowing viewers to immerse themselves in recreated natural environments. Through this process, Eva Jospin questions our relationship with nature, the idea of the forest as a place of mystery and refuge, and notions of memory and temporality. She draws as much inspiration from mythical and literary forests as from real landscapes. The meticulous work of cutting, superimposing and assembling cardboard reflects a rigorous, patient, almost meditative approach to craftsmanship, evident in the finesse of the details and the density of the compositions. Today, Eva Jospin is a major figure in French contemporary art, renowned for her ability to transform simple materials into works of great complexity and striking beauty. Her artistic approach blends poetry, technique and reflection on nature, inviting us to rediscover the magic and richness of forests, and to reflect on our own relationship with the natural world.

Lot 76 - D'après Pierre Auguste RENOIR et Richard GUINO - The Judgment of Paris High relief, patinated bronze print in five unwelded elements, signed and dated 1914 lower right. 75 x 91.5 cm Bibliography: - Renoir Sculptor by Paul Haesaerts, Reynal & Hitchcock, New York, 1947, a similar example is described on pages 26, 27, 40 and reproduced on plates X, XI, XII, XIII (dated 1916). Paul Hasaerts states: "What Renoir had in mind was to make of his Venus Victorious a monument with a pedestal that would be decorated with a relief representing the whole scene ... around the apple. He had already treated this scene a number of times in pastel, pencil and oil... So he began by asking his sculptor [Guino] to sketch a bas-relief that could eventually be used to adorn the base of the Petite Vénus. To this end, he gave him...a photograph of a drawing he had made in 1908, the same year in which he had also painted a Judgement of Paris in oil on canvas. In his Paris studio, Guino worked on this small bas-relief plaque, more in the style of a medal, measuring... 12 x 19 cm... But this was only the first sketch. Working from it, and with reference to the photograph, Guino began another treatment of the theme, this time in high relief. He worked on it at Les Collettes during 1918 [Sic] ... the dimensions were enlarged ... 73 x 91 cm... The composition is both lively and strictly organized. The handsome Pâris, dressed in a pleated robe, with a Phrygian cap on his abundant hair, kneels almost in ecstasy, offering the apple of victory to an opulent Aphrodite. On either side of the triumphant goddess, Hera and Athena, her disappointed companions, show surprise and rebellion, as much as is possible for Renoir's characters. Almost in fusion with Heaven, Hermes in winged heels, guide to the goddesses, attends the contest and, raising his arm in judgment, seems to ratify the verdict. As for his sculptural tribute to Venus, Renoir's plans are far from complete. He wanted to treat the bas-relief theme entirely in the round, to create a complete ensemble, complete with fountains and architectural motifs. The whole thing was to be placed in the garden of the villa at Cagnes."
