Lot 69 - Marcel GOUPY (1886-1954) - Large flared glass and enamel vase, signed MGoupy, H +- 27cm. Note: Marcel GOUPY (1886-1954) was a watercolor painter before developing a passion for ceramics and glass. A graduate of the Ecole Nationale des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, his meeting with Georges (Géo) Rouard in 1909 was decisive for his career. He began his collaboration with the gallery owner Rouard by supplying drawings and glass decorations. His first enamelled pieces appeared in 1914. In 1919, he became the gallery's chief decorator, then its artistic director in 1929 on the death of Géo Rouard, until 1954 in the workshop of the "Cristallerie de la Paix" store, located at 34-36 avenue de l'Opéra in Paris. This store was taken over by Géo Rouard with his decoration workshop on rue Vieille du Temple, and became a center for avant-garde decorative creations after the 1914-1918 war. Ceramics by Delaherche, Decoeur, Mayodon and Lenoble were on display. Silverware was represented by Dunand. René Lalique, Maurice Marinot, Henri Navarre and André Thuret for glassware. François Decorchemont was represented by pâte de verre. Marcel Goupy's works were among the prestigious signatures. From 1919 to 1923, Auguste Heiligenstein joined Marcel Goupy at his workshop on rue Vieille du Temple. Marcel Goupy's important output remains marked by vegetal decors and representations of nude women. The technique he developed is based on the projection of opaque or translucent enamels surrounded by a black line.
