In memory of Us, La beauté du geste", in parallel with the exhibition "Victor Hugo s'escrime", Maison Victor Hugo, Paris, April 27 - September 15, 2024, inaugurated in the presence of sabre player Sara Balzer, world number one, model for the sculpture La Victoire, and Sofyane Mehiaoui, playmaker for the French wheelchair basketball team, model for a sculpture representing the athlete in a dunk (basket shot balanced on a wheel), Stéphane Simon defines his initial project as follows: "A set of ten human-scale sculptures representing five women and five men from every continent, five Olympic athletes and five Paralympic athletes, to be installed side by side on an equal footing for the first time in the history of the Games. Ten humanist values, taken from the Olympic and Paralympic Charters, are associated with the statues, in which athletes and visitors from all over the world will be able to project themselves, identify or recognize themselves. In Memory of Us is a unifying, mobilizing and hopeful project that promotes equality between men and women, between able-bodied and disabled people, diversity, friendship, unity, trust, excellence and surpassing oneself, access to progress, particularly digital progress for the greatest number, sustainable development and living together in a climate of peace.
