GASTONE RINALDI FOR RIMA: AN OPENWORK METAL AND GLASS DINING TABLE c.1970 - GASTONE RINALDI FOR RIMA: AN OPENWORK METAL AND GLASS DINING TABLE c.1970 GASTONE RINALDI FOR RIMA: AN OPENWORK METAL AND GLASS DINING TABLE c.1970 designed by Gastone Rinaldi for RIMA, Italy, circa 1970. Known for blending industrial design with art, the tubular structure of the table is emblematic of Rinaldi’s work. Dozens of chromed tubes scrunched together to form a solid structure, topped with thick circular glass. A masterpiece of mid century industrial design perfect for any home or office. About the designer: Gastone Rinaldi (1920-2016) is an Italian designer. In 1916, his father, Mario Rinaldi, founded RIMA, a company that produced metal furniture. In 1948, Gastone Rinaldi and his brother replaced their father within the company. He met Gio Ponti in 1950 and, with his help, designed the chairs (DU10 and DU11) for the hospital section of the IXth Triennale in Milan. On this occasion he also presents the chair with the DU9 rocking back. During this period, the Domus magazine regularly publishes its achievements. He participated in the XXX Fiera Campionaria, in 1952, in the section “Art and Industrial Aesthetics” whose curators were among others Alberto Rosselli, Ettore Sottsass and Marco Zanuso. In 1954, he received the Compasso d’Oro for the DU30 chair. He participated with Ponti, Parisi, De Carli and Gardella, in the American adventure of Altamira, one of the first foreign companies to call on Italian designers. He designs, with Carlo Mollino, the chairs for the Molinette hospital in Turin. In 1957, the DU41 armchair won the silver medal at the XIth Triennale in Milan. Over the years, however, relations within RIMA would become complicated and in 1974 Gastone Rinaldi founded the company Thema. In 1978, he obtained a mention at the Compasso d’Oro for the Arianna armchair and, in 1981, a second for the Daphné folding chair, his last masterpiece. La Thema will close in 1989. "AMANTA" A FOUR PIECE MODULAR SOFA BY MARIO BELLINI FOR C&B ITALIA c.1970 - "AMANTA" A FOUR PIECE MODULAR SOFA BY MARIO BELLINI FOR C&B ITALIA c.1970 "AMANTA" A FOUR PIECE MODULAR SOFA BY MARIO BELLINI FOR C&B ITALIA c.1970 A early 1970s C&B Italia “Amanta” modular or sectional four piece sofa designed by Mario Bellini in 1966. Produced in the early 1970s by C&B Italia (known as B&B Italia today). The four chairs are made from an enamelled Fiberlite structure raised from the ground on four round hard black rubber feet. Each chair has three separate cushions. The removable foam block base cushion is secured in place with a small white toggle which slots into the base which stops it from sliding. The back and upper base cushion are extremely comfortable with three feature buttons on each. The fibreglass shells are in good order with no chips. The original black leather shows some minor wear but is in exceptional condition considering its age. By virtue of the label, it is possible to ascertain that this example predates 1973 when C&B Italia becomes B&B Italia following the acquisition of Cassina’s shares by Busnelli. A wonderful mid century set, rare to find in such good original condition. In Great Condition - Very good vintage condition, some light staining to the seating but not obvious, couple of the plastic pads missing from the bottom of the ball feet, minor scratches to the white shells but structurally perfect.
