"The 'pictogram' sign language for the Munich Olympics in 1972, the further developed Lufthansa 'crane', the appearance of ZDF in the 1970s. They all have one thing in common: their origins in the offices of Otl Aicher (1922-1991). The Co-founder and temporary rector of the Ulm University of Design (hfg) influenced graphic design in Germany - still noticeable today. Less known: Otl Aicher also developed furniture. Including a number of them, only a few of which were created. Namely those that Aicher made after his own He commissioned designs for his last place of residence and work, Rotis near Leutkirch. Often from regional craft businesses. One of these furniture groups: solid wooden tables with wooden benches. Otl Aicher had half a dozen of these table sets made in the early 1970s. They look like a mixture Style elements of wooden furniture in the Ulm 'college of design' (hfg) and stable Allgäu craft culture. Otl Aicher sat there with his staff. Also for discussions with customer companies. Sometimes for lunch with Swabian Maultaschen and Kässpätzle, sometimes for meetings. Important ideas for design concepts from companies such as Bulthaup, ZDF or fsb may have arisen while eating on these strong solid wood boards. The table sets have retained their clear edges and sturdy stability to this day." (Quote: Julian Aicher).

LELLA AND MASSIMO VIGNELLI FOR POLTRONOVA: A THREE-SEATER SARATOGA SOFA, 20TH CENTURY - LELLA AND MASSIMO VIGNELLI FOR POLTRONOVA: A THREE-SEATER SARATOGA SOFA, 20TH CENTURY LELLA AND MASSIMO VIGNELLI FOR POLTRONOVA: A THREE-SEATER SARATOGA SOFA, 20TH CENTURY designed by the Italian designer couple Lella and Massimo Vignelli. Produced by Poltronova of Florence, the sofa is a design classic with a black and red combination for the frame and cushions respectively. Although the original cushions show some signs of distress, they are still supple and have no rips and tears, ready to be enjoyed by the new owner for many years still. The Vignellis are well known for their clear designs and this piece is completely free of decorative details. All attention goes to the essential form and material in their design. Named the “Saratoga“, it is one of the first examples of modular and modern living in the 20th century. In the design as words: "We have designed this sofa because we really needed a sofa. And the sofa we wanted was one with an architectural character rather than a soft smooth object. A sofa that could be set out in the middle of the room. We didn't want it to be pushed up against the walls; we wanted it to move around as needed.” The series is composed of armchairs and sofas with two, three, or four seats. The rigid structure, made by assembling four parts of equal thickness with rounded edges contains slightly protruding seat cushions. The desired purity of the silhouette is accentuated by the precious finishes: glossy polyester lacquer for the chassis, similar to that of a piano, and fine leather for the soft cushions resembling the upholstery in luxury automobiles. The essential form combined with the precision of the design and the refinement of the finishes makes this project by Lella and Massimo Vignelli timeless. From some angles it looks as though the sofa is hovering above the ground. A design that is futuristic, modern and classic all at the same time. A truly remarkable piece of furniture which is useful, stylish and looks fantastic in a modern or mid-century design setting. Poltronova is an Italian company that operates in the design and furniture sector based in Florence. Founded in 1957 in Agliana, its best known products, some also exhibited at the moment in New York, include the Joe armchair, the Superonda Poltronova modular sofa, the Ultrafragola mirror, and the Sgarsul rocking chair. A SUITE OF LIGNE ROSET SOFAS, FRANCE c. 2000 - A SUITE OF LIGNE ROSET SOFAS, FRANCE c. 2000 A SUITE OF LIGNE ROSET SOFAS, FRANCE c. 2000 The iconic "Togo" sofa, originally designed by Michel Ducaroy for Ligne Roset in 1973, has become a design mid-century design classic. It is an extremely versatile modular sofa that can be used alone or paired with other pieces from the same range. Made completely from foam, with three different densities, this sofa range was built for comfort. The beige colour ties in well with most interior spaces and with its low seating position and instantly recognisable pleated fabric design, these two sofas have a perfectly relaxed aesthetic feel. They offer a variety of solutions. They can be placed facing each other, or at ninety degrees, like any other pair of sofas and the suite also comprises of a single seater and its foot stool. More importantly these sofas are completely original and have not been refilled or reupholstered in the way that so many have, thus keeping the appeal of owning an original Togo sofa. Professionally cleaned but there is a “shadow“ of a large stain to the seating area of one of the sofas and some traces of staining to the other items. The foam filling is in good order, no rips or tears. Please refer to photographs. 2 Seater Sofas: Height: 67cm Width: 135cm Depth: 100cm Seat Height: 33cm Single Seater: Height: 67cm Width: 90cm Depth: 100cm Seat Height: 33cm Footstool: Height: 33cm Width: 90cm Depth: 90cm

"AMANTA" A FOUR PIECE MODULAR SOFA BY MARIO BELLINI FOR C&B ITALIA c.1970 - "AMANTA" A FOUR PIECE MODULAR SOFA BY MARIO BELLINI FOR C&B ITALIA c.1970 "AMANTA" A FOUR PIECE MODULAR SOFA BY MARIO BELLINI FOR C&B ITALIA c.1970 A early 1970s C&B Italia “Amanta” modular or sectional four piece sofa designed by Mario Bellini in 1966. Produced in the early 1970s by C&B Italia (known as B&B Italia today). The four chairs are made from an enamelled Fiberlite structure raised from the ground on four round hard black rubber feet. Each chair has three separate cushions. The removable foam block base cushion is secured in place with a small white toggle which slots into the base which stops it from sliding. The back and upper base cushion are extremely comfortable with three feature buttons on each. The fibreglass shells are in good order with no chips. The original black leather shows some minor wear but is in exceptional condition considering its age. By virtue of the label, it is possible to ascertain that this example predates 1973 when C&B Italia becomes B&B Italia following the acquisition of Cassina’s shares by Busnelli. A wonderful mid century set, rare to find in such good original condition. In Great Condition - Very good vintage condition, some light staining to the seating but not obvious, couple of the plastic pads missing from the bottom of the ball feet, minor scratches to the white shells but structurally perfect. Please refer to photographs. Height: 70cm Seat Height: 38cm Width: 80cm Depth: 80cm
