WAGNER & S." and fineness indication "14 LÖL". Class (awarded posthumously on January 19, 1873), trial award copy, on the reverse master's mark "I. WAGNER & S." and indication of fineness "14 LÖTH:", all together in specially made case with lid inscription "Orden und Ehrenzeichen des Königlich Preussischen Majors ... The Iron Cross 1st class is one of the rare proof examples of the company Johann Wagner & Sohn in Berlin with the core type A of the Berlin iron foundry in excellent condition without the typical damage such as core breakage or the repair point on the pin hook, this proof version is one of the great rarities among the Prussian decorations Julius Otto von Schmieden was born in Soldin in 1834 and attended the cadet corps in Potsdam from 1845, in 1853 he became second lieutenant in the 4th Brandenburg Infantry Regiment.
