Grosser spätgotischer Figurenschrein mit thronender Madonna mit Kind - Height: 153 cm. Width: 67 cm. Depth: 30 cm. Probably North Germany, 15th century. Mary seated on a throne bench, with the beginnings of the side bolsters still recognizable. The upper part of her body erect, her face turned slightly to the left, framed by dark, wavy hair and a shawl draped over it, which falls down to her chest in tubular folds. The child lies in an accentuated diagonal, holding a white dove in one hand, while the other rests on the gilded sphere held by the mother. Both of these attributes are to be interpreted theologically: as the divine rule of the universe and the dove of the Holy Spirit. Compositionally, the slanting position of the child corresponds to the hem of the blue cloak running parallel to it, which underneath forms three pointed folds between the knees. The tips of the shoes emerge from beneath the bottom hem. The sculptor endeavored to give Mary's face a noble expression, with an inward gaze. The high forehead was seen as a courtly feature at the time of its creation. The high rectangular shrine probably did not originally belong here. It has an upper crenellated cornice, the opening spanned at the top by a gilded round arch, with carved semicircular small arches, tracery carving in the corners; corresponding carved tracery frieze in the plinth band. Franciszek Lampi, 1782 Klagenfurt – 1852 Warschau - PORTRAIT OF A LADY WITH PEARL JEWELRY 71 x 58 cm. Signed and dated "Joh. Ferd. Ritter v. Lampi pinxit 1831" verso on canvas. Numbered "K 9333" in black on the stretcher as well as other illegible numbers. In gilded frame. The hip portrait of a young lady in a white dress with collar in the shape of an open flower with contrasting blue wide belt with silver buckle, turquoise velum with butterfly decoration, pearl jewelry and bow hairstyle leaning against the backrest of a late classicist chair in front of a dark green background. A portrait from 1832 by the same painter is known, which shows Anna Katharina Leibenfrost wearing a similar hairstyle. Lampi, the son of Johann Baptist Lampi the Elder, studied in Vienna under Heinrich Friedrich Füger and settled in Warsaw around 1815, where he died during a cholera epidemic in 1852. We can therefore assume that the lady depicted is a Polish noblewoman whom he painted either in Warsaw or on a trip to another Polish city. With regard to the signature, it should be noted that a painting by his hand, which was offered on 21.4.2016 under lot 1290 at the Dorotheum in Vienna, also has a "J." in front of the "F", although the name Johann is not documented for this painter. In an interior room, a young, semi-reclining woman with her lower legs slightly crossed and her arm raised backwards, leaning on a large sofa with beige fabric upholstery on greenish and bluish cushions. Her head is supported by her hand and her calm gaze is turned towards the viewer. Numerous paintings and collector's items can be seen in the background. Harmonious painting with attention to compositional balance, attention to detail, a delicate and homogeneous color palette and a slow and subtle application of paint. He was a pupil of Cabanel, Sellier and Leborne. Between 1868 and 1913, he appeared at the Salon de Nancy with numerous Lorraine landscapes, some genre scenes, natural corpses and portraits. A good vintage unsigned stereopticon photograph of Dickens (approximately 17.5 x 8.5 cm), the sepia albumen print featuring two portrait images of the novelist standing in a three-quarter length pose, wearing a distinctive black wool overcoat with a quilted silk lining hand stitched with a scrolled feather design. a dark waistcoat and pocket watch, and resting one hand on the back of a chair. Photograph by Jeremiah Gurney & Son of New York and bearing their imprint to the left border of the photographer´s mount. A few contemporary and later annotations to the verso and with a few traces of former mounting. Some light age wear, otherwise VG The present image of Dickens was captured in November 1867, upon or soon after Dickens had arrived in America for his second reading tour. From December 1867 until the April of the following year, Dickens performed seventy-six readings, shuttling himself between Boston and New York. The dapper and distinctive overcoat that Dickens can be seen wearing was given by the novelist to the newspaper publisher and philanthropist George W. Childs of Philadelphia, who in turn gifted it to P. T. Barnum´s American Museum. Jeremiah Gurney (1812-1895) American daguerreotype photographer, known for having taken the only known photograph of Abraham Lincoln in death.
