Band signed in gold "Frans et Ante Penel", finished with a gilded crown at the muzzle. Smooth. Cal. 14 mm. Sight. Traces of inscription and hallmark on reverse of barrels. Long walnut shaft, finished with a horn ring under the muzzles of the barrels; squared stock. Silver trim (950): pommel cap with eagle head; trigger guard cut out, engraved with foliage, decorated with palmette and shells; cartouche thumb piece (blank) under marquis crown. Cutaway barrels engraved with flowers and dots, formerly gilded, then round towards the muzzle. Smooth. Caliber: 15 mm. Brass sights. Reverse of barrels marked "I.I. Blachon" near a fleur-de-lys and CN hallmark under crown. Long walnut shafts carved with teardrops and thunderbolts. Cut-out brass fittings engraved with fillets: chased "dogfish head" pommels forming a stunner. Horn ramrods with brass tips and reversible iron barrel puller. Barrel length: 21.5 or 21.7 cm - Overall length: 35.5 or 35.8 cm. Scratches and bumps from use; a few cracks, rubs and small chips to the wood; wood missing between the barrels and locks; a few chips to the ramrods; a few spots of oxidation; small crack on the side of one hammer's jaw. CALLET et Compagnie, harquebusiers in Saint Étienne, in the 18th century. This I.I. BLACHON must belong to the dynasty of harquebusiers or cannoneers of this surname active in Saint-Etienne throughout the 18th century. The "chien de mer" pommels are similar to those produced by the CASSAIGNARD harquebusiers of Nantes.

Bezel barrels, ringed, then round to the muzzle. Smooth. Caliber: 15 mm. Hook breeches. Tails of thunder in white polished iron. Decorated with knotted medallions, encircling the SAINT-ETIENNE proof marks, lines of dots and arrows, with the inscription "Canon Tordu", and the sights in a radiating pattern, in gold damascene on a burnished background. Reverse of barrels marked "Tordu", with initials A.O. on palms (proof mark) and incomplete name "... RIEU", probably for MERIEU. Long walnut shafts decorated with filigree and garlands of silver tassels (min. 800) inlaid with thunderbolts. Thumb pieces with oval medallion (virgin) in a silver filigree leaf surround (min. 800). Chased silver fittings (950): pommels with attel decorated with military trophies and radiating motifs, bridges and counterplates decorated in suite and with flowers. Small, illegible hallmarks. With black-stained wooden ramrods with silver-plated tapered heads. Barrel length: 17.6 cm - Total length: 32 cm - Total gross weight: 1.380 g. Scratches and knocks from use; a few chips to the wood; some oxidation to the reverse of the barrels, wood sides; Pistol signed Broy: old break restored to the barrel under the thunder tail; some watermarks missing; one hitch point broken, but present.

Blunderbuss bronze barrels, ringed, then round towards the muzzle, marked LONDON. Mouth diameter: 37 mm. Finials and friezes engraved with thunderbolts. Marks of the LONDON proof house. Long walnut shafts, decorated with flowers, teardrops and leaves. Cut brass fittings, decorated with rocaille cartouches and flowers. Iron rods with nail heads. Barrel length: 18.5 or 18.7 cm - Overall length: 32.8 or 33 cm. Safety catches not working. Scratches and bumps from use; a few stains, cracks and small chips, small groove under the muzzle of one barrel. KETLAND & Co. The KETLAND dynasty included several generations of harquebusiers or gunmakers based in Birmingham from 1740 onwards, then in London from the 1760s. Our pair of pistols appears to have been made by William II (?-1804), grandson of the founder, in the second half of the 18th century.

Straight triangular blade with engraved and gilded foliage and trophies on a blued ground in the first quarter. Monogrammed on the heel A.K. for A. KNECHT, active in Solingen. Wooden scabbard covered with white snakewood or shagreen (?), with three silver (950) trimmings, cut, gilded, decorated with semi flowers and leaf frieze. Iron rings. PARIS, 1798-1809 and hallmark of the goldsmiths' association. Blade length: 80.8 cm - Total length: 102 cm - Total gross weight: 519 g. Some wear to the decorations, but especially to the scabbard skin, which also shows a few knocks; clevis to be refixed, bowl missing; some oxidation to the hilt, and old oxidation to the blade. Single-branch hilt, ending in a leafy buckle, and cruiser decorated with a martial trophy, featuring a Greek helmet on a flag, sword and trumpet background, in a rectangular reserve highlighted by half-oreillas with palmette. Lion-headed curved quillon. Short-tailed pommel adorned with a rosette and a torus of laurel leaves. Ebony spindle with oblique grooves. Slightly curved blade with small cutting edge, two hollow sides and round back, finished with counter-edge, partially engraved, blued and gilded with trophies, bundles and laurel wreath. With a fancy scabbard (too long) in repoussé brass and gilded, decorated with military trophies in cartouches, laurel garlands and fluting, with two bracelets and faceted ring-bearers; iron sting. Wrap-around three-prong hilt with circle and flaming grenade, openwork palmette top, marked "VERSAILLES". Oval hallmarks under the palmette: "JC" for J. CAZAMAJOU (reviser from 1803 to August 1806), "A.C" for A. CHAPELLE (director from 1805 to August 1809), and "NB" (worn) for Nicolas BOUTET (contractor from 1800 to August 1818). Fuse covered with red-brown leather (changed?) and double braided brass filigree. Blade with one cutting edge, two wide hollow sides, two gutters and a flat back, marked "Manufre Imple de KLINGENTHAL Avril 1806". Heel stamped "L" in medallion by F.L. LOBSTEIN (reviser from 1804 to 1821). Brass scabbard with long red-brown leather crevices (possibly reported), two retaining rings and two bracelets, two iron rings; iron stinger. Marked by J. CAZAMAJOU. Blade length: 97.5 cm - Total length: 116.3 cm. Chips and a few cracks, some formerly restored, on the hilt; wear and rubbing on the leather; a few stains on the blade; scabbard dents, with some crushing.

Beautiful sword for a senior officer or dignitary, offered by a city. Guard entirely in gilded silver (950). Keyboard adorned in the center with a bust of Henri IV in a medallion, with a winged divinity on either side, above two leafy quillons terminating in a bust in a medallion, one with a woman, the other with a man, branch entirely chased, in the middle a bust of Minerva. Oval pommel representing, on one side, a woman's head symbolizing a city, wearing an olive wreath and a mural crown, and on the back, a rooster. Fully chased fuse, with a large lictor beam surrounded by foliage on the front and a helmeted Minerva in a medallion on the back (fuse turned over). Gilded and blued blade, etched on one half with a man in armor, a monogram: "J F A" or "F A" and a crowned imperial eagle; on the heel, a rhombus with the engraver's signature: "Bisch Le Jeune"; back marked: "Manufacture Impériale du Klingenthal". Leather scabbard with two gilded silver (950) fittings decorated with palms and flowers, iron stinger. PARIS, 1809-1819 (medium guarantee). Late First Empire period, modified under the Restoration with the addition of a bust of Henri IV. Gross weight: 727 g. - Blade length: 71 cm - Total length: 91.5 cm. Some oxidation on the blade; leather damaged in the middle; bent cap; cap knob ground in the center. Other models of the same type are known, also given as gifts by a town, and do not bear the same goldsmith's hallmark as this one.

Paris, Ladvocat, then Mame-Delaunay, then Mame. 1831-1835. 18 volumes in-8, 1/2 fawn calf, red and fawn morocco titles and tan morocco. Perfectly established bindings circa 1880. A fine copy, free of foxing, of the first edition of these "famous memoirs which owe much to Balzac [sic], and of which Chateaubriand, Victor Hugo and Alexandre Dumas made much of. The prestige of these memoirs, rich in curious anecdotes and piquant recollections, is clear to see. The success was considerable. However, this account by the Duchesse d'Abrantès, nicknamed by Théophile Gautier, not without reason, the Duchesse d'Abracadabrantès, should be used with caution" (Tulard, 5).

Written by General Alexandre Berthier, Minister of War, commanding under the immediate orders of the First Consul, and accompanied by indicative plans of the various troop movements, geometrically surveyed by the geographic engineers of the Dépôt général de la guerre.... Paris, Imprimerie Impériale. 1806. Large in-4° (290 X 235 mm), (faux-titre, and title-frontispice engraved by Niquet after Vernet), 40 pages. One folding table "Situation de l'Armée de réserve" (500 X 400 mm), 5 folding watercolor maps mounted on tabs, and 1 folding view of the Battle of Marengo, drawn by Bagetti, captain engineer surveyor. Full tawny marbled calf, broad laurel-leaf border, Napoleon's coat of arms on boards, fillet on the edges, inner border. All edges gilt. (Very skilful, almost invisible restorations to the covers and one corner). A fine copy with the Emperor's coat of arms, with large margins, printed on fine wove paper. This is one of the first works published by the Imprimerie Impériale, and financed by the state to ensure Napoleon's fame, which soon became legendary. The original edition, dated 1804, was printed in a very limited number of copies, in broadsheet format, and reserved for the very highest dignitaries of the Empire. In 1806, this in-4° edition, printed in 300 copies at most, was published for important officials; and the current edition, in-8 format (1 copy of which is reproduced on Gallica), in around 1,500 copies. The copy has been enriched with a letter dated 25 floréal an 10 (15 mai 1802) signed by Berthier, on the letterhead of the Bureau du Mouvement des Troupes, Ministère de la Guerre. The white endpapers bear the bookplate of the Prince de Carini, and the bookplate of Charles de Lacharrière.
