Proof coming with its folding catalog "Pierre Soulages" at the Galerie de France in 1956, from an edition of 400 proofs, here copy 275. Lacourières Paris imprimeur, Galerie de France éditeur Plate dimensions : 26.7 x 19.5 cm Flat catalog dimensions : 26.7 x 37.5 cm Reference: Pierre Encrevé, Soulages l'œuvre imprimé, Bibliothèque Nationale de France -BNF, Paris, 2003 French writer Jean Cayrol was born in Bordeaux on June 6, 1911. After studying law and literature, he became a librarian to get closer to poetry, an art form that had always attracted him. He soon became involved with the Surrealist movement, composing poems on his own. But then war broke out. Jean Cayrol soon joined the Resistance as a member of the Rémy network. He was denounced and deported to the Mauthausen camp in 1942. He was liberated in 1945. After a difficult return to Bordeaux, he moved to Paris, where he befriended Jean Marcenac, Louis Aragon and Paul Éluard through the Comité national des écrivains, with whom he kept up a lifelong correspondence. He went on to write Poèmes de la nuit et du brouillard (1946), in which he addresses the horror of the camps and the sad, poetic reality of the human condition. In 1955, the author wrote the accompanying text for Alain Resnais's film Nuit et brouillard. In the following years, he became fully involved in Parisian life as a talent scout, poet, novelist, essayist, screenwriter and film director. From 1973, he was a member of the Académie Goncourt, and took pleasure in surrounding himself with numerous objets d'art. After these heady years, he gradually retired to Bordeaux. He was awarded the Grand Prix National des Lettres in 1984. He died in 2005.

Hélène FEILLET (1811-1889) Portrait of Jacques-Taurin de Lormand at age 78 Oil on canvas signed in red lower left in the upright of the Empire armchair. Size: 102 x 82 cm Etienne Lormand, born in Bayonne in 1701 to a modest family, rose to prominence through trading, acquiring the seigneury of Ognoas in 1770. Jacques-Taurin, the family's youngest son, was born on September 5, 1762. He was admitted to the Paris bar, then to the Parliament of Navarre. On March 27, 1782, at the age of 20, he was admitted with age exemption to the office of "conseiller en la cour de parlement, comptes, aides et finances de Navarre" in Pau. After the Revolution and the Empire, he was elected deputy for Basses-Pyrénées. After retiring from politics, he became administrator of the Saint-Léon hospital in Bayonne. Jacques-Taurin died in his native Bayonne on January 24, 1847, aged 85. With no heirs, he bequeathed 4 million of his 5 million gold francs to various religious and philanthropic institutions. It is likely that the artist Feillet represented the notable man when he drew up his bequest. Hélène Feillet trained as a painter with Ary Scheffer and her father Pierre-Jacques Feillet, a painter and lithographer who himself had been trained by the famous painter Anne-Louis Girodet-Trioson (1767-1824). She exhibited at the Salon from 1836, and in London from 1855. Her "Arrival in Bayonne of the Duke and Duchess of Orleans", painted in 1842, was commissioned by the Ministry of the Interior. An accomplished painter, she embodied the pictorial savoir-faire of her time in Bayonne.

Fine Portrait on panel of Juan Bautista de Muguiro, attributed to Francisco de Goya (1746-1828) - Aragonese School of the 19th century - Fine Portrait on panel of Juan Bautista de Muguiro, attributed to Francisco de Goya (1746-1828) - Aragonese School of the 19th century Oil on panel: 23 x 18 cm, measures with frame 32 x 26 cm. Muguiro, banker and merchant, perhaps exiled in Bordeaux due to the services rendered to King Joseph Bonaparte by his family firm, "J. Irivaren y sobrinos", later held important political positions in the Spain of Isabella II, being, for example, president of the Cortes and senator between 1836 and 1845. Goya, in the dedicatory inscription of the painting, defines himself as a "friend" of the portrayed, perhaps to thank him with that term, so generic in Castilian, for the efforts or aid received from him, who was also the banker of his son Javier. A few years earlier, Goya had thus dedicated "to his friend Arrieta", the portrait he gave to the doctor who saved his life during the illness that affected him in 1819. The artist presented Muguiro for posterity in his most prosaic and mercantile aspect, reading a recently opened letter and seated next to a desk covered with papers, on which shines a large green and gold porcelain inkwell. Goya in his old age condenses his technique in a few brushstrokes, given with sudden impulses of energy, which reveal the effort of his hand and his eyes, almost blind, although it has remained intact. Pérez Sánchez, Alfonso E., "Goya in the Prado. History of a singular collection", Goya. New Visions. Tribute to Enrique Lafuente Ferrari, Isabel García de la Rasilla and Francisco Calvo Serraller (eds.), Madrid, Fundación Amigos del Museo del Prado, 1987, pp. 307-322.
