Description

John Adams Document Signed as President Partly-printed DS as president, one page, 19 x 15.5, March 3, 1798. Four-language ship's papers issued to "Absalom Z. Vernon master or commander of the Sch called Illinois...bound for Petit Goave and laden with Sundries as p. Manifest." Prominently signed in the center by President Adams and countersigned by Secretary of State Timothy Pickering. The two white paper seals affixed to the left side remain mostly intact. Removably encapsulated in a mylar sleeve. In very good condition, with repaired separations to intersecting folds, a horizontal fold passing through the lower portion of Adams's signature, a mild stain trivially affecting the last letter of Adams's first name, and some toning and chipping to edges. Accompanied by a full letter of authenticity from PSA/DNA. A scarce and sought-after format, particularly with such a large, bold signature.
