Description

Ai Weiwei, Chinese b.1957- BOMB, 2020; digital inkjet print on 310gsm Hahnemühle German etching wove, signed in black marker and numbered from the edition of 100 in pencil, sheet: 130 x 95 cm, (unframed) Note: This print was produced for the 50th anniversary of The Kitchen Gallery, New York. The work explores the weapons of mass destruction which impact the global refugee crisis. Inspired by Weiwei's 2019 exhibition 'History of Bombs' BOMB charts the genealogy of the modern ballistic missile via 2D renderings. The bombs are organised by size, rather than time and development, as they crescendo from the bottom to the top of the sheet, the ballistics remind the viewer that bombs escalate conflict more often than they resolve it.
