Fritz Uphoff. 1890 Witten - 1966 Worpswede. Caesar's head - study for a mosaic. Circa 1913/17. mixed media on paper laid down on hardboard, signed and inscribed verso, approx. 88 x 86 cm, restored, framed behind glass 103 x 103 cm - Uphoff completed an apprenticeship as a draughtsman for glass painting and mosaics in 1907 before studying painting in Munich from 1909. In 1913, after marrying Lore Schill, he settled in Düsseldorf and devoted himself to mosaic, glass and fresco painting. The present design study was exhibited in the Düsseldorf Hall of Fame in October 1917 - From the artist's estate.
