Rare partridge in a nest as a lidded box, Meissen, 1740-60, 1st choice, A partridge sitting in a woven wicker basket covered with sculptural grasses and ears of corn. Brown or gray plumage, iron-red head feathers. Polychrome painting. Beak minimally restored; 10.5 cm. In the period between 1745 and 1760, a wide variety of so-called vessel porcelains were designed according to naturalistic forms. These decorative table ornaments were most frequently used as butter dishes, for example as cabbage heads. Less frequently, animals were designed for this purpose, mostly by Johann Joachim Kaendler for courtly hunting parties
