Proto-Sumerian Pictographic Tablet for Amounts of Barley. Uruk III, circa 3200-3000 B.C. Rectangular tablet, lentoid in section, with surface divided into three panels, each with a proto-Sumerian legend in an early form of cuneiform script. Believed to have been published in Cornell (ATCPC), no.140. 26.3 grams, 55 mm (2 1/4 in.). From an important collection of a London gentleman, 1980-2000s. This lot has been checked against the Interpol Database of stolen works of art and is accompanied by search certificate number no.12243-220927.
